All that is written below is my opinion & what happened when I had to deal with Upul.

At first Upul seemed really good, but like soooo many of these foreigners who have a pool of people working with them, what you see at first isn’t what is really going on.
Often times they change people, so you think you are writing to one person & really you aren’t.
I hate that with a passion, & it seems they all do it, & I don’t mean just East Indians, but Filipinos too, Russians & god knows who else.
So Upul responded to our graphic web designer position, he gave me everything that was asked of him, & I liked his portfolio, so I gave him the details to fill out our online application.
Everything went downhill from there.
- He picked the wrong position he applied to.
- The 2 phone numbers he gave me contradicted one another.
- He didn’t answer the application questions in order. We have a form & above it in text are questions that are asked & the applicant has to write the answers in the comment field. It’s a great way to see how smart the applicant is. Most people answer the questions in the order that they are asked, Upul or whomever, didn’t.
- He didn’t answer all the questions.
It also was apparent the English was poor which contradicted the initial bid I received which was well written English.
So, I said that it’s unfortunate that he made so many mistakes, & we really need someone who is fluent in understanding English.
I was very nice, & straight forward.

I thanked him for showing us his true personality, as with his nasty attitude blaming others for his mistakes, he would have been fired very quickly, therefore I was very glad he made all those mistakes, it saved me a lot of time.
This guy is really mean spirited.

First off, thank you for taking the time to post your experience with Upul Ilangamge. I do wish I had seen this post BEFORE I hired Upul Ilangamge or whomever he has actually doing the work.
I hired Upul via elance (at top dollar I might add) and right now I am VERY disappointed! I spent several days reviewing various portfolios and was very impressed with his. I was wary because of his foreign sounding name and insisted on speaking with him by telephone.
Because my website deals with a unique American activity (tailgating) I really needed someone that understood what tailgating is all about. I also let him know that I had to have someone that was very creative, someone that could take the images I have and come up with a really cool flash design and that this is why I was hiring someone because I do not have that talent. (I have been designing websites since 1994 but am not the greatest with graphics or flash).
What I received from him left me perplexed. The first image showed a bbq grill with the ocean in the background???. The rest of the very basic flash went downhill from there. Honestly, I could have put together what I received…pathethic!
When I commented that it wasn’t even close and to put some creativity into the design I received an email back that (In poor English) told me to “put it all together” and let them know so it could be finished all at once. This obviously wasn’t even Upul responding to me.
VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED!
Consider this fair warning if you decide to do business with Upul Ilangamge (OKwebmaster), AKA ilangam on elance!
