So I should have known that something was up with this Judy when she uses an AOL e-mail address.

LOL, no one in their right mind uses AOL unless they are quite innept at the Internet & they have no idea that AOL is THE worst ISP to use.

Anyway, I wasn’t paying attention, I was just interested in finding a graphic web designer & Judy responded to our hiring ad on www.project4hire.com

I thought things were fine, we were discussing via e-mail her prices, & her designs, & what the task entailed etc.

Then I gave her our online application to fill out, & this is the NASTY response I get from her…

“Michelle, your application could not be more unprofessional.  As a person with twenty years of experience, and most at executive administration level, it is offensive.  If you are looking for a freelancer, then you are looking at candidates that work independently, work their own hours, have integrity and pride in the way they do their job and in customer service.  Talk about disrepectful!  Judy”

Like WOW, I did absolutely nothing to this independent contractor & this is how she treats us. And somehow she thinks that because she has supposedly worked for executive companies that SHE shouldn’t fill out an application like any other independent contractor should when applying to a company.

Boy, she clearly doesn’t know anything about running a business.

Talk about being unprofessional & mean spirited too.

I’m still shaking my head on why she lost her temper just because of a simple online application, but hey, I told you, most of these graphic web designers have serious emotional issues, act like little children & are very hard to deal with.

Thank you Judy for showing me your true colours before we may have hired you.

Diana responded to our hiring ad on Lime Exchange for a graphic web designer. It wasn’t until afterwards that I realized she didn’t address all of the questions asked of her. I also just noticed that she picked the wrong position in the application she filled out for us.

Fast forward, we hired her to design a header for us as well as redo an existing header combo.

My assistant had problems communicating with her for the header combo, she didn’t listen to what he was suggesting. I had to intervene & I felt Diana would try harder.

Then we had a problem with her dissapearing for a day of work. She apologized & said she forgot to tell us she was going to be away that day – she would communicate much better.

After the 2 tasks were done, I gave her another task to do. She said she would get it done by the weekend.

All of a sudden the next day she said she couldn’t do the task & I should find someone else.

I was upset with her lack of professionalism & told her so. She claimed she thought she was going to be done another project, but it was taking longer to do. She said she would be done by February 27th, but the 27th came & went & no word from her.

Diana knew full well we had several templates that needed to be created. She lied about her availability & strung us along.

In my opinion, Doug is another one of those nasty graphic web designers that feels the COMPANY should bow down to him instead of him behaving like a mature adult who actually cares about the companies he works for.

He contacted us via our hiring ad on www.guru.com looking for a graphic web designer. We asked him to fill out our company application as is a normal practice with professional companies who screen ALL team members before contemplating whether to hire them.

Instead of Doug Haines reading it over & following the simple instructions, he just filled out the easiest part (a sign of laziness & disrespect).

Very nicely I told him we can no longer consider him because he didn’t read over the application & follow the instructions (all true of course) & I even wished him all the best.

Instead of apologizing to me & wishing me all the best, his very rude response that shows he DOESN’T take responsibility for his actions, instead he opted to blame me for his mistake was:

“Sorry. Your elaborate scheme isn’t worth the trouble. We are on a time
clock and little tricks like the one you are playing don’t work. We would
not have a 5* rating on GURU.com if we didn’t provide our clients with 100%
satisfaction on a timely basis. We have never had a dissatisfied customer.

We would probably not enjoy working with a group as anal retentive as yours
anyway.

Good luck. I’m sure you will find a developer that is just like yourself,
filled with miss-placed focus.”

So I guess according to Doug Haines online companies who behave like REAL companies is a low handed “scheme” & the people who decided to ask potential applicants to fill out an application are anal retentive.

He further puts other graphic web designers down who can actually read & follow instructions.

I went to go look at his reviews from Guru & found that while he had some really good ones, a lot of the companies who hired him gave him no feedback at all & I think a lot of the great feedback (or most of it) was from over a year ago.

Perhaps these companies didn’t want to receive the wrath of Doug Haines, because being upfront & honest doesn’t go over too well with Doug. My god, can you imagine if he actually worked for an offline company, I would be scared to be his manager, he would probably go postal if he was repremended for something he did wrong.

Rocky Canlas responded to our hiring ad  seeking a graphic web designer.

He didn’t read the hiring ad & follow the instructions, so I asked him to respond to the hiring ad.

The next thing I know instead of communicating with me like a mature adult, he pastes the bogus scam blog URL that tries to discredit me & Exotic Publishing as a scam company LOL

These people who posted that site are disgruntled independent contractors who didn’t like the fact that I called them on their inability to follow instructions, or lied about their skills. I posted our experiences with them as being inept workers, so they went out of their way to lie about Exotic Publishing & they don’t even have the nerve to say who they are, so they hide behind the Internet.

So I calmly said to Rocky, that is obviously NOT the hiring ad, please don’t contact our company again, we only deal with professional responsible people.

He wrote back screaming at me in HUGE bold RED letters calling us SCAMMERS.

Thank god Rocky showed his true personality.

I’m glad he found the post.

You can always tell a person based on how they handle things, & we only seek to surround ourselves with mature, professional independent contractors, not the ones we feel need a lot of emotional help.

Once again, another rude immature acting graphic web designer.

I’m not sure if this is a male or a female, but when they went to fill out our online application, instead of following the instructions & putting their answers in the comment field, they sent them in an e-mail to me which is very very strange. They also didn’t give us their phone number, so they are obviously hiding something.

Since only one other person out of hundreds has ever e-mailed the answers instead of putting them in the application, I knew this Jesse person wasn’t going to work out because there would be too many mistakes they would make that we would be stressed over.

So I told them that if they aren’t understanding me already, then we won’t be able to continue.

LOL, that is when this Jesse character had to try & prove to me that THEY don’t want to work for us even though I had just stated that. Once again, someone who tries to blame others for their actions instead of taking responsibility.

“Judging your attitude, you’re not an employer I would want anyway. I
am well qualified for this position, but it is a mutual agreement –
i’ll take my services elsewhere.”

Noooo, they are NOT qualified for this position because they can’t even follow simple instructions.

Independent contractors have to learn that working at a company is MORE than just their skillset, it’s a combination of communication skills, attitude, maturity, desire to learn, grow & help the company, etc.

Thank god Jesse Johnston’s attitude became apparent quickly so we don’t have to waste anymore time on them.

I found Jason from Ohio on this message board – http://www.wickedfire.com & contacted him on August 29, 2008.

I asked him if he was available to do work for us & he said yes, his turnaround time was 12 days.

I sent him a list of questions which he was surprised about. That should have been my first clue that he’s unprofessional, & that anything that isn’t 100% easy for him meant he was eventually going to cause me a who lot of stress. Sometimes I never learn.

Any real professional shouldn’t be surprised at all by simple pre-sale questions, so it was clear to me that none of his clients really send him questions prior to hiring him.

I was very patient with him waiting for over a day each time just to get a response back from him & I told him I would like all the preliminary issues to be finalized by the end of the weekend & it was even a long weekend, so I thought it wasn’t that big a deal to expect us to address my simple questions by September 2, 2008. Boy was I wrong.

Then he tells me he doesn’t use Photoshop, he uses Corel PSP x2 which doesn’t produce PSDs, only PSP images. I discuss this with my assistant who says there should be a way to save it as a PSD. I don’t hear back from Jason until 2 days later. He tries to make excuses that the Corel won’t save the image properly & his friend & him tested this out.

Since I’m really being patient here, I tell him that I’d like this all finalized (not the design, just all the business type issues) by this coming Saturday, as it’s already been a week now & not much has been settled which means I can’t even order anything from this guy. This is when he starts to piss me off telling me I should probably go look for another designer. I was waiting on this unprofessional graphic web designer this whole time & NOW he decides to tell me this, so I tell him this is VERY unfair to me to keep me waiting & can he sent a copy of that file to my assistant to fool around with it, & I give him the e-mail address.

Here’s where I really lost my temper.

Jason has the NERVE to tell me that he told me he was too busy, that he was busy this weekend etc. (all lies). Jason never told me that it would take this long to deal with simple payment & file type questions, I mean come on, my questions should take no more than 15-30 minutes to talk about via IM.

He tells me his other clients are obviously way more important than me (great business person – NOT) & that he knows I’m going to be difficult, so I should go find someone else. When people are a certain way, they tend to tell others they are just like them. Jason was clearly difficult to deal with, so he tries to make ME out to be the problem instead of accepting responsibility for his mistakes, miscommunication, unprofessionalism etc. Then he lied again on the message board when I warned others about him saying he NEVER told me he didn’t want to work with me & to find some other graphic web designer.

I guess saying: “I can already tell you’re going to be extremely difficult to work with, so I would prefer if you found another designer.

Once again, these arrogant, unprofessional, immature graphic web designers string a professional business along, lie about when they are or not available, & cause me to lose my temper.

When will I ever learn that these graphic web designers who come from these message boards aren’t respectful, they don’t really care about anything but money, because if they cared about the person, they would be upfront & honest & say they can’t address any of this now, please check back in 2 weeks when a lot of my work has settled down, but Jason never said that.

And what kind of a designer can’t even produce a simple PSD file?

Here we go again. I guess until I find a mature professional who knows how to design well & follow simple instructions, I will continue to post my experiences.

John responded to our hiring ad, but didn’t give us everything we asked for, he only gave us our keywords, & he seemed so sincere saying they were down to earth, great at customer service, etc., so I sincerely told him it’s too bad he didn’t give us all we asked for. I wasn’t being sarcastic, I was simple stating my disappointment.

The next thing I know, I’m getting arrogance & ego about how I’m missing out on great work because of the questions.

So I responded back, how great could you possibly be if you can’t communicate well. I even forgot that he went on & on in his e-mail about how great they were with communication.

For me communication online deals with the person responding to every single question you ask, & making comments to the most important comments the writer made. This isn’t offline telephone or in person communication, this is online written communication. If a person can’t read or write English very well & isn’t able to avoid missing key parts of an ad or e-mail, in my opinion they are not able to work for us online.

So, John’s attitude next was to say how great their portfolio is because they have had jobs from Harley Davidson & General Motors & this next sentence he wrote pissed me off “But I guess tunnel.   minds with their set ideals can not be changes.”

John, we DON’T look at portfolios if you can’t even respond properly to a hiring ad.

I wrote him back, & spoke my mind & told him NOT to contact us again.

Once again I feel like I’m dealing with a child.

Not only did he have to try & prove he was right & I was wrong therefore not taking responsibility for his mistakes, he never ONCE apologized for the mistakes he did make.

I don’t deal with these types of people, we are ONLY seeking people who admit when they are wrong, & mature enough to apologize & correct the mistake(s).

Blaming others is a C level worker’s way of doing things. An A+ worker never blames others for their mistakes because they man or woman up.

Kayvon applied to our graphic web designer position & we liked his portfolio, but he didn’t answer one question that is asked in the hiring ad, so I wrote to him asking him why he didn’t answer it.

His answer made no sense at all…

“I apologize for not following through with your requirements. I normally let my work speak for me as well as my reputation I have with my current and past clients and employers.”

His design work had nothing to do with the question asked which is “what are your strengths & weaknesses”, so I told him we don’t read minds, & when we hire, we aren’t just looking for skills, we want to know what type of person we are hiring.

I mean this is a given for any professional company hiring, they don’t just want anyone.

The response I got back was demented. First he refuses to fill out our online application which is a warning sign, as why in the world would anyone looking for a job REFUSE to fill out a job application?

Then he starts telling me about his private life which wasn’t the point, we don’t care about his age, his wife, girlfriend, amount of kids etc., this wasn’t a personal’s ad, it was a HIRING AD for a position with our company.

Here is his response back repeating what I said to him which is very immature.

“I believe you are thinking I can read your mind, and I cant. There is no way you could know what kind of person I am via an email and the form in which you wish me to fill out surely cannot do that either. If you would like to have a working relationship with me as a designer, I look forward to your reply as we can discuss your projects and negotiate a rate at which we are both satisfied. I have an extremely good relationship with my past employers and still do business with many of them as an independent contractor.

So, his communication skills are terrible in my opinion, he refuses to act like a professional making it hard to deal with him, & his personality is typical of what I wrote in my blog about how graphic designers act.

Arrogant, confused, can’t communicate well, he resisted doing the simplest of things, & he doesn’t care about the company’s policies & procedures.

Was about to hire him to do a small task of designing a signup box, when he refused to fill out our simple application form.

Another egotistical unprofessional independent contractor who is a graphic web designer.

I already posted my experiences with website copywriters, & the second position is graphic web designers (no code, so this is just creating PSDs so our website coder can create the web page).

Not only do we find them very hard to work with, their attitude is terrible, and here’s why.

1. Their insecure ego is terrible. Most of them refuse to fill out a job application, as if they are better then everyone else, & shouldn’t have to go through the screening procedure everyone else goes through.I even had one who did a few things for me, & then when I was ready to get him to do more work (bigger tasks), I sent him some files with rules of the company, NDA, etc., he then refused to sign anything knowing full well this would cost him the job.
2. A good 95% of them don’t read the hiring ad which is in plain clear English, so they get tossed almost immediately.
3. I’ve had some refuse to be paid the way the company pays then telling me that if I don’t pay them via Pay Pal, they won’t take the job, so they would rather lose work, then be paid some other way which is perfectly fine.
4. One just lost the job because she didn’t return my e-mail saying that she should IM me from Yahoo when she is ready for the interview. When I wrote her again, she was all flustered saying she can’t sit around at the computer all day waiting for work.Who says she had to do that? The application clearly stated that the interview is done via IM, so once again, she didn’t understand a word that was written on the application, but somehow she was smart enough to actually give me the keywords, answers to the questions etc.She wasn’t very good, but I was willing to give her a try, but once again, here is an example of someone who doesn’t care about the company & it’s procedures, or even the job.
5. A lot of them disappear never to be seen again.
6. A lot steal other people’s work claiming it is theirs.

I don’t get why these graphic web designers are soooo difficult to deal with. They are unprofessional, they act like little children where if they don’t get their way, they run away, or they charge a fortune for simple work.
